Welcome to AdHocNets 2016!

Message from the General Chair

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 8th EAI International Conference on Ad Hoc Networks (AdHocNets 2016), and to Ottawa, Canada. AdHocNets 2016 is a major annual international event in the ad hoc networking community. This is the first time that this conference is being held in Ottawa, the capital city of Canada.

Ad hoc networking covers a variety of network paradigms, such as mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), wireless sensor networks (WSNs), vehicular networks, underwater networks, airborne networks, home networks, and etc., with applications ranging from commercial to military communication networks. Over the last decade, ad hoc networking has attracted a lot of attention from both the research community and private industry. Many efforts have been devoted to this area, producing enormous contributions addressing the fundamental issues of ad hoc networking including modeling, protocol and algorithm design, and security architectures and mechanisms etc. Although ad hoc networking has been largely considered in military contexts in the past, recently, its commercial applications have been seen to grow substantially. Now, we believe, it is the time to invest greater research efforts into addressing the challenges related to commercial applications, and bring the huge potentials of ad hoc networking and years of research and development beyond military applications. At AdHocNets 2016, you will find the opportunities to discuss with your peer researchers from around the world the latest advances in this constantly evolving field, and hear about recent developments in new commercial applications of ad hoc networking.

This year’s conference program highlights two keynote speeches by Professors Hussein Mouftah and Mohamed Ibnkahla. The conference includes a number of general sessions, containing papers from the open Call for Papers, intermingled with invited papers from renowned researchers in the field. The program also features two workshops on ad hoc network security and vulnerability, and airborne and software defined networking, respectively. In addition to the technical program, I hope you get a chance to explore Ottawa and its surroundings. Ottawa is a picturesque city on the Ottawa River, which offers an unparalleled combination of historical sites, national museums, galleries and festivals, diversity and quality of cuisine as well as a variety of sports, recreational and outdoor pursuits for you all to enjoy.

I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the organizing committee and TPC members, workshop organizers, EAI staffs, and the steering committee members for all their hard work and outstanding contributions. Without their support, the conference would not have been possible. I would also like to, on behalf of the organizing committee, thank all authors and attendees for your support and participation, and wish you a pleasant experience in Ottawa.

HIGHLIGHTS

Scope

Ad hoc networks, which cover a variety of network paradigms for specific purposes, such as mobile ad hoc networks, sensor networks, vehicular networks, underwater networks, underground networks, personal area networks, and home networks, promise a broad range of applications in civilian, commercial, and military areas. The aim of the annual International Conference on Ad Hoc Networks (AdHocNets) is to provide a forum that brings together researchers from academia as well as practitioners from industry to meet and exchange ideas and recent research work on all aspects of ad hoc networks.

Following the success of AdHocNets 2009, AdHocNets 2010, AdHocNets 2011, AdHocNets 2012 and AdHocNets 2013, AdHocNets 2014, AdhocNets 2015, the eight edition of the event, AdHocNets 2016, will be held in September 2016. The conference will consist of keynote talks, technical sessions, and associated workshops. The technical sessions will present original and fundamental research advances while the workshops will focus on development and application issues in this hot field.

The AdHocNets 2016 organizers are working hard to make this conference a great success and memorable for everyone. We very much look forward to meeting you in in September 2016.
